Around the world the language services market continues to grow year on year at a spectacular rate. Choosing a career in language services has seldom been more opportune. Nonetheless, the growing visibility of automatic translation has led to some pessimism among translation professionals. Working as a post-editor (corrector) of machine translation output is perhaps not a good career path, but there are many exciting emerging opportunities in the language services industry, ranging from project management and translation supervision to audiovisual translation.
The global market for outsourced language services and technology will reach US$40.27 billion in 2016 […] CSA Research found that the demand for language services and supporting technologies continues and is growing at an annual rate of 5.52%.
So declares Common Sense Advisory (CSA), an independent Massachussetts-based market research enterprise founded in 1999, in their annual report, The Language Services Market: 2016, which has just come out. As they state in the report’s summary,
People around the world prefer communicating in their native tongue. That fact will drive the language industry to US$40 billion in revenue for 2016. To support this growth, language service and technology providers are extending their repertoire beyond basic translation, localization, and interpreting to embrace their clients’ global content strategy. They are offering new services, building new tools, and linking their processes and technology with that of their customers to provide better, faster, and more reliable products and services.
All things considered, it seems to be an exciting time to work in translation.
