For those of you who believe in fairy tales and for those who once did, 2013 is the year to rediscover Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Cinderella, Hänsel and Gretel…
It is an undeniable fact that Grimm’s fairy tales are known worldwide… and probably translators have something to do with it!
According to stats from UNESCO’s Index Translationum (database of book translations, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm rank among the top ten most translated writers in the world and their stories have been translated into 160 languages!
More than reading their works, the right time has come for translators to know about Jacob and Wilhelm’s life! Visit Hanau, Brothers Grimm’s native town, Steinau an der Strasse, where they moved in 1791, Marburg, where they attended the university; or Kassel, where they worked as librarians and collected information from hundreds of fairy tales and legends! Walking the German Fairy Tale Route will allow you to reread and recreate their works in its tracks.
Follow the route and get involved in GRIMM 2013 to join the jubilee cultural event programme: exhibitions, theatre plays, concerts, readings and much more. Enjoy it!
Curiosament la Lydia es va comprar un recull de contes dels Grimm aquest dissabte, una retraducció actual dels seus contes clàssics. Casualitat de la vida? 😉
