The Microsoft Star Trek Translator

One of the big news stories in translation circles in recent weeks is the video of Microsoft’s head of research, Rick Rashid, speaking to an audience of 2000 Chinese students and teachers back in October.

After about 7 minutes he sets up real-time English-Chinese interpreting in “his own voice”. The listeners start to cheer and applaud every sentence and even if you don’t understand Chinese it’s quite moving, actually.
